New build and phonelines

So, still getting to grips with our new build/ end terrace house we are renting. Thanks for everyones help so far.

Next problem, trying to get telephone line installed.

At the front of the property there is a small piece of 2-3" plastic piping going into the ground. Out the wall above it comes a run of white telephone wire that is then bundled up and goes into the piping - no idea if its connected to anything or not as I havent pulled it.

In the lounge at the rear of the property there is the only phone socket in the property (its unbranded), outside on the end wall near the rear corresponding to the phone socket there is a junctionbox with a single thick black cable that goes down the wall curves towards the rear of the property and then goes into the ground.

OpenReach came at the weekend to dig up the road to lay ducting and cabling to hook things up and say the cable at the front is for the phone line and they had no idea what the cable at the side/ rear is or where its going but that all "BT" lines go into the front of new builds.

Anyone any ideas what this rear cable is? Will BT install a new master socket somewhere really inconvenient? Will this existing telephone socket be connected up?

Can't the developer advise you what is or is not connected up?
Is the installed socket a BT NTE5 master socket (you can tell by the split faceplate)? Extension sockets don't have this.
OR will normally install the master at the nearest point to the street cable entry (typically in the hall or front room).

Have asked the developer whos said they need the site manager to answer but I've been waiting 3 weeks for him to get back to me on snag list so thought you guys are normally quicker.

It doesnt appear to be a modern master socket as it doesnt have the split face and no BT branding on it but it is larger than a normal phone socket. I havent taken the face plate off to see if there is the other socket behind it.

The cable coming in at the front lines up to the downstairs toilet but no idea where the other end of it is.

Post a pic of the socket.
Could be a cable service-are you in a VM cable area?

Sorry, the hole in the faceplate is a normal telephone socket size/ shape but the faceplate itself is the size of a normal single plug socket. In my past experience extension phone faceplates are smaller but I may have non-standard experience

there is no VM in the area
