Liverpool and Southport- what to see?

Hi everyone
Me and OH are going up to Southport for two nights in a couple of weeks. We have one full day there and on that full day we're getting the train into Liverpool. I used to live in Liverpool for three years but that was in the early Noughties and I'm aware it's changed a bit since then :D I vaguely know the places to show him but I'm disabled and on crutches and so I can't walk for miles to show him round all the individual places :( I noted there's one of those sightseeing trips but there seems to be a couple of companies who do them and I'm a bit bemused as to which one is best. Also the stops are a bit confusing- I vaguely recall where Queen Square bus station is and I think we can pick up there but again I'm a bit confused with the different buses! Are these tours worthwhile? I know they do cost but that's not really an issue- plus I have an NUS card. Also- were aiming to get to Southport sort of early afternoon time, so we'll have a few hours to kill before our plans for the evening. What sort of things is there to see? The last time I was there was in 2002  so I'm guessing it's changed a bit as well! We're based at the Premier Inn which I believe is on the ocean plaza retail park. Again, any reasonable suggestion would be good. There's just me and OH. Thanks :)

Both Liverpool and Southport have changed so much in the years since you have last visited.

Get the train right into Central station and you are right in the 'Centre' lol. Walk down Church St and you have the Liverpool One shopping centre, which is great, but huge. You can walk through there and it brings you out to the Albert Dock, which has also changed. You have the 3 graces, the museum of Liverpool and the Echo arena, with the big wheel. You have the Beatles museum and always the ferry across the Mersey.

Towards Lime St, you have the Museum, The art gallery is closed I think at the moment, but you have St Georges hall too. Have a look at this link it may give you some ideas.

Also, have you not thought of hiring a wheelchair or scooter for the day? There is a place in Liverpool one centre that hires them out, I think about £5 a day. Details here. it may make it less stressful and let you see more.
    Shopmobility
Visitors with mobility problems may like to make use of Liverpool's Shopmobility service. You can hire equipment including manual and electric wheelchairs and electric scooters. The shop is on the third floor of Liverpool One shopping centre, close to the accessible parking bays in the Strand Street Q-Park. Equipment must be booked in advance and there is a charge. More information can be found on the Liverpool One website | or by calling 0151 707 0877.

Southport is Lovely. You are not too far from Lord st really from the PI. Just over the bridge and down a road. There are some great shops and the walk along Lord st is nice. Try the Swan Chippy,Behind the Bold hotel for really good fish and chips, it is an institution ! Loads of places to eat and drink too.

Have a great time, love both places, Southport is my chilling out place, just window shopping and people watching.

Groupon do good deals for the city sightseeing tours, maybe get one of them?

Hire a scooter or wheelchair from shopmobility for £6 a day and that'll save your legs.
just passing through.... Nothing to see....
