Hi my parents have just moved and have a very poor giffgaff signal inside their house, have tried the online signal checker but no problems in their area so as they can get a full EE signal I am looking for some advice on the cheapest tariff they could go onto.

Father currently uses less than £10 a month calls only and mother can go for a couple of months on £5 if that.

Any ideas on how to go forward ?

Thanks

Check White Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Asda Mobile.
    All three use EE signal.

The cheapest option depends on how many minutes and texts (and data?) they actually need.

ETA: also IKEA's Family Mobile IIRC.

I used Asda mobile when I only needed to top up a fiver every few months. Cheap and as long as you make the odd call or text the credit doesn't expire. The downside is that since they moved from Vodafone to EE the customer service has gone down the pan a bit.
Virgin mobile stopped doing the simply 8 tariff which was similar prices, and the last time I looked it was only worth it if you were on a monthly sim. As grumbler says, it depends how many minutes they're actually using.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

  • Leaving aside the virtual operators suggested above, which offer the cheapest PAYG tariffs, the lowest cost on Orange/T Mobile is on Orange Racoon PAYG tariff at 14p a minute (charged in whole minutes) and 14p a text.
So unless you have a reason for only using orange/T Mobile direct then choose one of the virtual networks.

As three part own the majority of the EE masts, it might be worth checking their coverage checker because their 321 payg plan is very good.

The network share doesn't mean that signal is the same. Many places with good EE coverage could still have poor Three coverage.

I know thats why I worded it as it was. Their joint company MBNL own the masts and its worth a check, especially if the op gets a strong 3g signal from ee and it is likely to be virtual identical, as the network share agreement for 3g was very high. 2g and 4g are a totally different matter tho.

Thanks for all the helpful replies I will look into them an update on case anyone else is in the same situation.

My mother only uses I would say 30-40 mins a month if that as most of the time they are both out together and use my fathers phone.

All the family are on giffgaff now and my parents only use calls no texts and no data
