With Fred's recent diagnosis of chronic kidney failure I am looking at ways to make him drink more water and a cat fountain will be one of the ways.

I used to have one ages ago but then when Zara arrived this was not an option as she would drink it all the fountain would run dry ...

Worked out will put it on the kitchen worktop in the corner where she can not reach so just the cats will have access.

I see lots of them, lots of reviews but...

Any recommendations from the insiders on here?

Was looking at this one

Reviews shaky though....

Hmmmm

Thanks a lot

Ages ago I used to have this one..

I quite like this one from Zooplus - only because it is black :)

We've just got the lucky kitty ceramic fountain from zooplus with the long-hair long lasting filter and all 3 of our cats are drinking from it. Gizmo was a little scared of it at first but tbh he's afraid of anything new. I ordered the filter a week after the fountain arrived as the pump had quite a bit of fur on it but I think that's more down to the fact that to begin with they kept sticking their paws in it.

It does remind me a little of a bidet but luckily that cats haven't noticed that. It's heavy so isn't moved easily and the water stays lovely and cool. Each day I just top it up with a little more water and clean it and the filter once a week in red hot water and rinse the filter through with boiled water from the kettle. I still have a couple of bowls of water out too but they definately do use the fountain.

I have the Lucky kitty one too and do like it although I actually find it quite fiddly to clean out properly.
GR.....I think I might still have my old catmate one hanging around somewhere, would you like to try it to see if the cats will actually use it before you go ahead and buy one?

    Thanks...

I am still looking at the black one though and will give it a go - just because it is black and has decent size water container...

I know the boys will use it as they drink from taps etc - just a matter of finding a place for it so Zara does not reach and somewhere near a socket. That only leaves kitchen worktops.. sighhhh

PP - you do not need an excuse to come over you know ;)

I have the one you are looking at and it works well, easy to clean and very quiet. My cats love it
  • I've also got the black one .... in white!

Had it for years - managed to get a replacement pump for it a while back so easy to fix if it goes wrong

Worked really well - bought for Smudge for the same reason

I did find it could be a bit of a PITA to get into the tight corners to clean them properly (had funny water at the time with really bad limescale) but I think you can get a proper brush for it (?)

I've actually dug their other fountain (catit) out the other day to see if I can get Mia to drink a bit more as she's terrible (Archie drinks fine) but she's not shown any interest in it at all

Pondering digging out the one line this instead ......
