Npower woes billing errors etc

Had a dual fuel account with Npower for Gas/Electric which showed online as one account. Since November when I changed tariff to a fixed they split the account separately one for gas and one for electricity. The electricity account appears to be up to date and correct and shows a debit balance of approx £300. The gas account though has been suddenly closed and I have been refunded a credit balance of £485. When I have looked at the account online it would appear I have not been billed for any gas since December 13 and there have been many bill reversals. I have not cancelled my gas account and anyway why would they refund me when I have a debit balance on the electric account which surely they should have offset with this balance and refunded the difference. Before this refund I did write to complaints department asking for a proper bill and why all the reversals but have not had any response. Prior to refund I had been giving online monthly meter readings but now because the gas account is closed I am unable to give them a reading. Luckily I have been keeping a spreadsheet of my electric/gas usage and I believe before refund I was £30 in credit. Obviously this refund has now put me in £450 debit and I dont want any debt issues going forward. My feeling is I should now pay back the outstanding Electric bill and leave the gas account to see what happens going forward.

Ive really had enough with this incompetant company and would like to leave but not sure if this will make things worse. Any advice would be appreciated
