Recommendations for villa holiday destination

Hi all,
Planning my summer holidays but I'm really struggling in finding a decent location.. hoping someone can provide inspiration!
Enjoyed a fantastic villa holiday in Portugal (Praia da Luz, Algarve) a few years back. First villa holiday, loved it!
Been on a few of the villa holiday websites but all the search functions are related to the villa itself (ie number of beds etc), i find something which looks great but then check the location and there's only 1 bar or it's 3 hours from he nearest airport...
So, does anyone have any recommendations on villas / resorts with the following criteria?
- traditional mediterranean vibe, pref greece, italy, france or croatia
- village / small town with a few restaurants and bars selling local food (don't want egg and chips, wel, not every day!)
- near the coast
- opportunity for days trips (cultural or activity based like biking, walking etc)
Thanks!
Matt

If you're open to the suggestion of an Italian lake rather than sea try

How about the Aegean coast of Turkey?
A stunning choice on the Bodrum Peninsula is Yalikavak...

Visited there a few days ago by dolmus from Bodrum. The marina complex is Wow. I thought we'd been dropped onto another planet, and at the other end of the waterfront everyhing reverts back to a traditional and very affordable.
Interested? Have a look at the Airbnb website...

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

I've stayed in villas all over France particularly like Provence and if you want to bike then you could try Mont Ventoux;)
The trouble is that to make the most of this type of holiday you really need to drive rather than fly.0 -
What about Crete?0

The Bodrum Peninsula is lovely and as mentioned above there are lots of good villas in Yalikavak or Gumusluk.0

We spent a week in Dalyan (Turkey) last month and it's lovely. It's a small town by the river, 30 min from the beach by boat or bus. The town is small with lots of restaurants and villas to rent at great prices.0

Aeolus villa in zakynthos is amazing! Www.aeolusvilla.co.uk
North of the island so away from the stag parties and 18-30s vibe. About 2kms from Agios Nikolaos which is a little port with trips to the shipwreck beach, Kefalonia and the blue caves. Lots to do, beautiful setting and private enough for skinny dipping...There is no excuse for rudeness. Ignorance on the other hand is excusable – you don’t know what you’re talking about.0
