When to apply - just moved home

in Credit cards
I've recently bought my first home with my partner and I've been changing all my address details etc this week.
I want to apply for a balance transfer credit card to try to cut down some outgoings and get a better rate but I'm worried about getting turned down.
I was thinking that maybe I'll need to wait a few months before applying for new credit.
Has anyone had any experience with this at all? Or know if I would need to wait 2/3 months?

When I took out a mortgage with Halifax (who were also my banker since childhood) they wouldn't immediately give me a credit card.
They've only just agreed to a Clarity card, two years later and after three previous failed attempts. Oddly it's come with a starting credit limit of £8k which is one of my higher ones.
The point of my response though is this: I did get a Capital One Aspire card with £10k limit after my first rejection from the Halifax and within just one month of moving in. Ditto with MBNA.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
I'm in same position too, moved 4 weeks ago and wanted balance transfer card for my rubbish capital one card ! But I'm waiting few months old address still shows on eqiafax don't want to risk being turned Down so will wait it out few months x0

Thought I'd update this to day - I applied for a balance transfer - the BarclayCard Platinum 18months 0% today and got approved. Just over a month after moving into the newly purchased house.
Not sure if it went in my favour that our mortgage was approved over 6 months ago, maybe that helped but I only changed my address on all correspondence etc within the last month.
I was naughty for chancing it with the application but it seems to have worked out ok. Here's to being free of an evil APR and onto a new 0%

you wont be on electrol roll at new house ( I suspect - so do get on it asap) its more likely Barclaycard liked your application and what details they could find at the cras)
Barclaycard don't like to say no to the vast majority of people, they want everyone to have a barlcaycard and are in my opinion one of the best credit cards you can have in your purse / wallet.
not to mention they are often the industry leading bt card provider (33 months at moment)0 -
We moved into new house 6 weeks ago, I wanted balance transfer card and a purchase card for house renovations , I applied last week to Santander with heart in mouth may I add as the Electroll roll not updated on credit agency's yet.... But guess what I got both and both in 0% !!! So yes you can do it I did bank with Santander though for 16 years x
I also have friend that applied for hslifax loan day after completion of mortgage with halifax and got 10,000 into account .0 -
I applied for a CC when I'd lived in my (privately rented) flat for under 3 weeks and had been in my job for a whole day! Before that I'd had a student CC.
Admittedly I'd received an email guaranteeing my acceptance on the back of the 5k ISA I held with them at the time... but I thought I would get a paltry limit and was quite glad to get £3800.
So I guess lenders make decisions using secret magic formulae so time at address and time in job may or may not be that important depending who you ask.0
