How much housing benefit for someone working on part time minimum wage?

Just checking for a friend who can only work part time due to his condition.

He will find it impossible to pay all his rent on minimum wage (£400) and still survive with food, bill etc

Any advice how much help he would get?

He doesn't think it's right people on benefits are better off when he's making a effort to contribute to society.

He will be entitled to a maximum of the one bed rate lha for his area dependant on his income. Why cant he work full time?

It depends on the LHA rate and how much he earns. He has a personal allowance of £7.40 if over 25 and a disregard of £5 a week.

Sorry, forgot to add that if he is under 35 then he may only get the shared accom rate unless he meets certain criteria.

I work part time around school hours for my 4 year old son. I only get around £40 per week and I have to pay the rest of my rent myself, £450 pcm. And I'm entitled to more than your friend as I have a child with me.
Can he do the entitledto calculator? Would give him an idea of roughly how much he is entitled to.

The comments and advice I give are what I believe to be correct
My phone likes to use full stops instead of spaces sometimes, I type too quickly and it would take forever to go back and change them all, so please excuse them!

And others don't think it right when people game the system working part-time and end up with as much money as those working full-time. He really should think before opening his mouth.

But, yes, he can claim benefits (gosh, he'll be on benefits - what a terrible person, apparently, to him, hope self-hatred doesn't complicate his 'condition') that will depend on his age and LHA. His condition may mitigate - you have to check for that as well as age.
