Car tax under mobility

How many cars can be taxed if someone is getting high rate DLA?

My sister has terminal cancer, her son is her 'main' carer so to speak. He gets free road tax on his vehicle.

My niece also does a lot of running my sister about to hospitals etc, and my sister is arranging for niece to get a mobility car and giving up her mobility allowance for this . I understand that mobility car, no insurance or road tax is to be paid.
Can both cars still have free road tax? Carers car, and mobility car?

Unfortunately no only one car per recipient.
  • Will the road tax on her son car become void , once the mobility car is picked up?

She can only use her exemtion on one vehicle, once she gets the mobility vehicle her son need to go and buy a tax disc for himself.

As the disabled person can only assign the disabled tax disc to one vehicle, I would imagine that the road tax on her son's car will become void as soon as the motability car is taxed (note that the car will be taxed before it is picked up).

Her son will also have to change the taxation class on his car back to PLG.
