Santander visa debit card issues

I wonder if anybody is having problems with their Santander 123 visa debit card. It took me 4 attempts at a Sainsburys petrol station before being told it was declined with money in my account. I then went to the next counter and it worked.
Today at another store the first time it said card not valid, then card fault and then finally it went through and was authorised.

It could be your card and not just because it is a Santander card.
I get it all the time with a card that I have with another bankOwing on CC £00.00 :j

OH has similar problems with a Santander credit card at Sainsburys both in store and in the filling station. The machines either say 'insert card' and don't register that a card has been inserted or 'error' every time. Works everywhere else though including a local Boots chemist, which is notorious for card problems. I do recall Sainsburys having new card terminals last year and he had no problems before that. He has wiped the chip but makes no difference at Sainsburys!"Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it": Ferris Bueller

Sainsburys just has awkward machines. A few of the tills at my local Sainsburys won't accept Amex via the chip, it'll just say "Card error, swipe card" and you have swipe the card and sign instead.0 -

On these occasions OH just used a different card, coincidentally, a Sainsburys cc which, oddly enough, works every time.
