Hi all
This may be a very silly question but please bear with me! A while ago I bought a dell desktop for my daughter, at the time I didn't want her to access the internet so when it was configured it was done so without internet "bits" :rotfl: however now I want to get her on the net. So what are my options? I've tried a USB wifi dongle to mixed results, I've read about a wireless PCI card! Would this work if I fitted it? I've googled how to fit and looks easy but I don't know if I'd need anything else?
All help would be greatly appreciated.

How far away is the router?0 -
What do you mean 'mixed results'?
You need some kind of connection, if you dont want to plug it in physically to a router then it will have to be wifi. I would try updating the driver on the wifi dongle and checking the router signal strenth before you buy anything else.0 -
The PC is going to be upstairs and can't connect with physical connection as doesn't have an Ethernet port.
The USB dongle may be worth another try just wanted something a bit more permanent.0 -
I'd be surprised. Are you sure? What's the model and/or show us a picture of the back of the computer.magpiesnest wrote: »The PC is going to be upstairs and can't connect with physical connection as doesn't have an Ethernet port.
A pair of homeplugs is what you need. (ethernet 1 end, wifi the other).
EDIT: e.g.

sounds like you need a more modern PC than one from the 90s ;-)
no Ethernet port? unheard of recently. it will perform poorly on the internet as your processor wont be up to the job these days.
Certainly, if it has no Ethernet port then a pair of homeplugs is NOT what you need.
A wifi dongle may be useful for you yes. but best advice comes from giving specific info :-)
Pls post some details of the machine and a pic of the rear if possible.
thnxFriendly greeting!0 -
Was it purchased new? If so, what is the Service Tag written on the machine?0
