trip to the shard

I asked ds what he wanted to do in the holidays and he said he wanted to go to the yard! After much confusion on my part and many questions he reveled it was made of glass and I realised he wanted to go up the shard :rotfl:
I am thinking of pre-booking tickets as it saves a few pounds but I have no idea how long it takes to get from the station (kings cross) to there. It is easy for me to work out what tubes we need to get on but I have no idea what distance or time it takes to get between stops. Is there a website that will tell me this?
Also I was wondering about going to the aquarium in the afternoon as I have some discount tickets, but again I am clueless how long it will take us to get from the shard to the aquarium and then back to Kings Cross
Anyone been up the shard any tips/helpful info for us?
Thanks

The shard is at london bridge station, literally built next to it. You can get a direct train from kingscross st pancras to london bridge it takes 16 minutes. or you can get the northern line which takes 20 minutes.0

Things must have greatly improved since I last commuted round London. I'd allow a bit of extra time for the inevitable delays and problems, that most people get to experience when using public transport up there :cool:The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -

Here you are. It says 10 mins from King's Cross to London Bridge. Then about 15 mins from Waterloo to King's Cross at the end. A basic rule is 2 mins between stations in central London, Zone 1.
Here's a walking route between the two https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=The+Shard,+London+Bridge+Street,+London&daddr=SEA+LIFE+London+Aquarium,+Westminster+Bridge+Road,+London&hl=en&sll=51.504444,-0.086667&sspn=0.00971,0.022724&geocode=FTzlEQMdda3-_yn7jZSfUAN2SDHIeJ-__gJkHA%3BFQ3eEQMdZTD-_yG-KW5bHAWzEClzadIAuQR2SDG-KW5bHAWzEA&oq=london+aqua&dirflg=w&mra=ls&t=m&z=15 but the walk along the South Bank is a lot nicer if longer.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
London Transport, when its working, it fabulous. I must be lucky as have never experienced many delays. The aquarium is supposed to be good but just be prepared to queue for what will feel like forever. It's gets really busy too in that area too with folk going to and from London Bridge. On a hot day, it would be my worst nightmare.0

Yep, it's very quick. Tfl tends to a min or two longer than the journey, I often find, but that depends whether the next train is 2 mins or 3! Have a good time

In the middle of the day the tubes are quiet and very quick, but watch out if you are travelling back to King's Cross after about 4:30 - it will be slower then.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0

Thanks everyone, thats a great site saturnalia, I have bookmarked it for future reference.
Not sure if I would feel confident enough to walk, I am happier using the tubes as I can't get lost that way! I have been know to get on a tube only to find I have got off again at the end of the road

Yes I know to avoid all trains at around that time, we will stay and have tea somewhere so will leave later what time would you say it starts to get quieter again?0
