Better router than the standard TalkTalk Fibre one?

Hi all,

Had fibre bb installed last week by talk talk and although the speed is 100x better than ADSL in most spots, i've noticed im not getting the same wifi signal strength in the bedroom as before. Ive got the Huawei HG533. My bedroom is in the extension of the house so it has to travel through solid walls and i know it will never be great, but it was the standard sky adsl router we had before and it was fine in the bedroom. Now this one works - but only just, it can drop out at times which is frustrating.
I've had a look about the talktalk forums and done the mandatory google search but its a minefield for me, there seems to be so many different options with everyone having mixed results with different equipment.
I want to try and keep just the modem and router if possible and not venture down powerline adapter route so if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations i would really appreciate it

Thanks

    Hi,

I replaced my TalkTalk router with the BT Home Hub 5.

It replaces both the router and the openreach modem. It has 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ wifi and the distance it reaches is good (I have very solid walls as well)

I bought it from ebay for £30 delivered. Just had a look and you can pick them up at the momet for around £50 delivered.

    Thanks for the reply

Do you know if you need to give up part of the bandwidth for the openzone/fon free wifi if you use one of these Home Hubs or is that only for BT customers?

    Thanks

    Hi,

No. You don't lose any of your broadband to openzone or Fon. As you say, they only seem to work with BT.
