Slim fast anyone?

Ok I know meal replacement is not the best thing in the world, but it's easy, quick and not that expensive. Also easy to take out and about.

My plan is shake for breakfast, fruit mid morning, shake for lunch, low fat/cal tea then diet snack/crisps in the evening. My hubbie will do the same but he will have breakfast.

Would anyone like to join me?

Any tips or hints?

If u just want to tell me it's a bad idea, then please keep it to yourself- this forum is about helping each other and saving money.

We are going out later to buy supplies, going to get some ready made up bottles for my hubbie to take to work- no fridge, a tin of powder for home and some snacks- under 100 calls these will be a mix of slim fast and shops own brand.

We both have a good 2 1/2 stone each to lose.

  • Have you had it before? Just to say if not don't buy too much in one go. I had the canned shakes quite a few times before and then bought the strawberry one you make up. I don't know what the difference is and if I'm food intolerant to something in it or if I just got a dodgy one but I've only twice been more sick than that. One of those was food poisoning and the other was Noro virus.

Drink plenty of fluids or you may get constipated.
The shakes are nicer with ice. The cholocolate one tastes really artificial.

If you're like me, yOu'll get bored before you lose the weight you want to.

Thanks for all that, the sun is out today so I will try the ice at lunch time.

I have done it before and I was fine but it's years ago, I have already been increasing my water intake.

It's in bottles now not the tins for individual drinks. My hubbie has the bottles to take to work and I will be making mine up from a big tin, sure that works out cheaper. Planning on a swim this morning so will be taking a banana with me for when I finish.

The breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I think it will be best if you skip dinner and have a camomile tea instead. It will calm your organism and reduce your appetite for the evening. Also I drink a lot of green tea because it helps the metabolism.

Well you did better than me! One dose from a pot 20 years ago was enough, its stuffed full of xantham gum to thicken it and not an experience I wish to repeat.

Agree that a cup of tea / coffee / water instead of dinner is a good idea, by day 4 you won't even feel hungry in the evenings any more.

  • I am giving slimfast a go.

I have 5 & 1/2 stone to lose so it wont be a quick fix for me.

I bought the bottles too they have them on in superdrug right now 3 for 2. The mocha & latte ones are soooooooooooo yummy.

I have a shake for breakfast with black coffee & water.

Lunch I had some sushi today with black coffee & water.

Dinner I will have another shake & maybe a boiled egg or two depending on how hungry I am feeling.

Snacks throughout the day I have some nuts & raisins.

Really want to do it this time I have been faffing about with diets for years.

Way to go! Cutting down on carbs an unprocessed foods will work a treat, especially if you exercise. Try and eat some green veg too. Drink plenty during the day and you'll find you won't be hungry after 5pm.

As a moneysaving tip, instead of Slimfast why don't you make yourself an iced latte with skimmed milk and sweetener (if you like it sweet, that is) instead of a meal? I'm not a fan of sweeteners personally, but the odd one here and there won't hurt you.

  • I might give that a try at the weekends.

In work we dont have much access to food storage or anything like that so the pre bottled shakes work a treat & I always shop around to get a good deal.

    I'm a wee bargain hunter ;-)

Just made another coffee, glass of water & about to have my nuts & raisins.
