I agree that OO is better than renting
however if we don't have sufficient housing for everyone to own then artificially trying to slant things to OO won't work as the price of renting will rise and so being a landlord will become more profitable.

the solution is building more houses rather than increasing taxes.
Not all of this investment property is not even rented out. Some is just sat on as HPI shows a hefty return on it's own. This has now spread beyond central London into areas like Battersea.

You say the price of renting will rise.... by how much? At what rate will it increase? And how do you know this?

Different issues. Building more houses or not isn't going to solve the problem of the structural budget deficit.

true, it wouldn't solve the problems in the middle east either or those of world peace
but building more houses will help solve the UK housing problems

    Not sure I agree.

Crude market controls would just drive money into other asset classes.
what like investment in british manufacture and business, fuelling global growth?

I would prefer FTSE250 investment than raw increases in asset price of an essential asset like housing.
