Sainsbury's brand match changes from June 2nd

Can someone provide some clarity?

Just had an email through from JS saying that you no longer need to spend £20, just have 10 different items in your basket.

Does that mean I can no longer pile up on 10 boxes of cereal which are £2.50 at Sainsburys vs £2 at Tesco and get the £5 voucher difference?

You would. As long as you had 9 other different items, from how I read it.

Makes Sainsbury's a bit less attractive now.

    Just play along with them.
10 different items could be 1 banana, 1 mushroom, 1 tomato, 1 carrot, etc, etc, etc.

Meaning I have to go and pick up 9 other items that I don't necessarily need / want...not ideal.

Makes little difference still as I tend to do it when buying other things not much of a biggie. Instead of making sure my shop is over £20 just have to make sure I have 9 other items in the shop.

yes you can no longer just buy the items you are targeting (think this is really only worth it if you have another incentive, like staff discount or no other stores locally).

I may have to split up my shopping more :)
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

All of my big shops at sainsburys have been split into £20ish buckets for a while, just to try and maximise on the brand match...

meaning receipt #1 says your shop was £3 cheaper at JS
receipt #2 says your shop was £2 cheaper at Tesco

Rather than having an overall receipt saying your shop was £1 cheaper at JS

The 5% discount I get at JS does help now that you brought it up ;)

You need to buy 10 different items and at least one of them needs to be branded.

My grandmother does not drive and has limited vision (macula) and the only supermarket she has is Sainsburys. Sometimes she has bought 12-15 items for £15-18 and often misses out on BM vouchers.

Though with the current system - customers could get a BM voucher for just buying a £20+ bottle of spirits.

Thus making Sainsbury's even less of a sensible MSE option.

I don't normally buy 10 items. As it's the same with Asda. I just buy a couple tins of different things in their basics/smartprice like chopped tomatoes, mushy peas, baby carrots etc as I use them.
