Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday May 25th 2014. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

A Very Quiet Update as Mother is Comfortably Ensconced and Snoring on the Sofa…...

Well we somehow managed to move Mum over to our house. Like Dad i was frantically searching for decent, non holey clothes that would see her through a week or so. They are also thin on the ground and I'm going to insist she buys herself some new ones asap. i can order her a selection and then she can try on at home - that is what I do.

I appreciate all the comments regarding looking after myself and please don't worry as I have a very supportive husband and DD who insist I rest up - like yesterday. I was in bed at 7.30pm:eek:

The visit to Dad went very well - we even took his goldfish in to see him as they were in transit to their new aquarium. Made the residents laugh:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: They recognised Dad's voice and got all excited ! Mum misses Dad and visa versa so that is a good start and she got very emotional and he gave her a huge hug and kissed her - tears all round - even from my practical hubby! I was cross though as the clothes did not arrive as promised from M&S so going over on Monday with DD and Mum to try on.

Im staying home with mum today whilst Hubby and Youngest go to their house to fill a huge skip. I honestly think they will need two as I found lots of of very out-of -date food etc. Anyway we have paid for a packing service so hopefully it will go smoothly.

Still hoping Mum pulls through - it is like she has given up - I keep being positive with her but she has kind of lost her tenacity and stubbornness that has kept her going - it won't be through want of trying.

OS - more scrambled eggs!

Hugs x

Morning Molly & all who cross/follow
I'm glad things are looking more positive for you & the family.
Sunny here this morning though some showers are forecast later.
Washing is on the line & there is one more load to do, DW emptied, fish fed & hubby & I have a cuppa each.
I reclaimed the spare room y'day, I've moved all the gardening stuff & put my sewing machine back up there. I cut out some Ote Dama juggling balls from MFI3 blog & some owls from Tracing Rainbow's blog, I also have a quillow & a couple of children's dresses cut out too, so I will get some sewing done this week.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

Had a lovely week in a canal boat holiday, good weather for most of the week, we saw some stunning scenery, and plan to go back and explore more in the area.

    Washing machine busy today!

Will read back through the week, but hugs where needed.

Now, to meal plan for the next week...

Good Morning Molly and all who follow, my you are a good lass to your Mum and Dad. Hopefully things will settle down and life can start to get back to relative normality for you.Well done to your family for rallying round to help out as well, your OH sounds a real gem.

Well the sun is shining and its bright and dry at the moment today at least I had a quick look at the forecast online and its not looking quite so good for this half term week unfortunately but who knows it may brighten up :):)
Ever the optimist thats me :):),I got such a lot of odd jobs done yesterday all the ironing is done and the washing basket is empty :):) just as well if we get bad weather this week. I even spent an hour or three cleaning all the kick boards and cupboard fronts yesterday in my kitchen and so my kitchen is looking rather smart, shiny and white again.(I have white doors on all of my kitchen cupboards that come up beautifully with a microcloth and a polish. I even cleaned the front of the washing machine and fridge/freezer so its all sparkling and bright now .It normally gets a quick clean weekly but yesterday I did all the bits I normally miss :):):)Floor got a scub as well instead of a quick mop.I felt very energised for some reason, (won't last I know as I really am not keen on housework as such) I do it because it has to be done ,but I would rather bake than clean any day. What jobs do you lot do ? in preferance to others indoors.
I don't mind cleaning windows ,but hate putting the ironing away.
My DD hates sewing even a button on,but will garden until its dark. Her four boys give me any repairing jobs on their clothes as they know if they waited for Mum to do it their clothes would go out of fashion :):):)Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Well eldest DD is due this morning for her coffee and 'strangled eggs' breakfast. Its our weekly ritual and gives her an hour or so away from the family and a bit of spoiling from her old Mum I wait on her hand and foot and she loves it, an oasis of peace in her very busy life is what she calls it :):):) So I had better get a shift on and have a shower and breakfast shortly.
Hope you all have a good day and the sun shines down on you where ever you are
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx

    Morning :hello:

I've just washed my hair and used leave-in conditioner – it feels fab :D I ran out of it a week ago and my hair's been like straw for days.

It rained all day yesterday, I was a bit bored by mid-afternoon. I resorted to checking tea and coffee jars, etc. and topping them up. Most were pretty full already but I really needed something to do :D All shampoo, shower gels etc. were filled to the brim too. I use old Soap & Glory pump bottles, looks much nicer on the side of the bath/sink when they all match :D

My baby blanket is almost done, should be finished by tonight. I need to get a move on with miss tru's blanket, it's for her birthday next month.

I have the house to myself for a couple of hours this morning so I'll whizz round with the duster, tidying as I go. If the weather doesn't brighten up later, I'll just lose myself in the greenhouses for a while this afternoon. I need to tidy the tomatoes, plant the lettuces and get some pots ready to 'catch' strawberry runners. I keep the empty pots on the shelf, mr tru has been in there and messed them up so I need to sort them out. I like them stacked in size order thanks very much, that's how they were, why can't you keep them that way? Not shoved in any available gap and WONKY. Neat. lol

    Jackie
I hate cleaning windows. I happily never do it :D Mr tru likes doing it though so I leave it to him. But I like cleaning the frames, lol. I hate ironing and so does everyone else. If there's a wedding/job interview/something else important, we'll iron for that. But that's all :D I don't mind everything else, would rather not do it but I like sitting in a clean house so the end result is worth it :D

    Good morning all,

I'm still lay in bed but thought I would post early as Sundays tend to be a bit crazy here. Dd and DGS due back shortly, ds3 stayed at his gf last night but will turn up this morning and ds2 and his gf are calling this afternoon. Luckily I managed to get the cleaning and washing done yesterday. Just a chilli to make for anyone who fancies some.
Dh finished the bathroom, photos on FB if your interested it looks fab, just the door to go on today.
Dh and I caught up with second episode of Fargo last night, it is odd but interesting.
Mum and dad have just come back from their week away at ribby hall. They loved it as usual and have already booked again for next year.
My next job is to clean the paintwork on the stairs and landing. My brother arrives with his family on 25th June so want everything to look good, we are currently looking for a new thermal door curtain for behind the door and want to change the hall runner as it's looking tatty.
Anway fancy french toast this morning so better get a wriggle on, have a good day x

    Morning all,

Molly I am glad the visit was a success yesterday. Perhaps now your Mum is staying with you she will start to pick up and take an interest in life again. Hugs to you and take it steady.

Hester it sounds as though you are going to be doing things that you want to do this week and you will be able to forget all about school.

Jackie, you have been busy. My kickboards need doing, I noticed this the other day when I was mopping the floor. You have sunshine? We have had rain most of the night again. There is nothing nicer than the Garden of England on a sunny day. My DH is a Kentish Man and our elder daughter is a Maid of Kent and we used to live on a farm in a little village between Sittingbourne and Faversham. Having been born in the Midlands I loved living and working there, but I was very ill after DD was born and we moved back to be near my family. I well remember the cherry and apple orchards, happy days :)

Off to the cemetery today, it would be my Dad's birthday on the 28th and then to Costco to stock up on a few things.

Have a good day everyone, if the weather allows.

    Much love

  • Good morning everyone :)

Getting ready for first trip of the day to DD's new house. Organised carpets and flooring yesterday so they are coming to confirm our measurements and finalise price today. Guy was really good, we told him we were working to a tight budget so he asked if we had anything we could use - two birds killed with one stone, I get a huge roll of underlay and a box of gripper rods removed from the loft and we get a reduction on price. Result!

First job of the day is to seal living room walls with diluted PVA, then see where else we can paint while that is drying. Need to try and find something to patch up some bits of walls that are slightly damaged to avoid redoing whole rooms - am thinking cheap mirrors, picture frames etc from IKEA or similar, Any ideas/suggestions very welcome .......

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning all,

Bright and sunny here atm I have the bedding in the wm which will be hung out later, OH at the boot sale and dd is staying at a mates till tomorrow so just Little dog and me here, she had her stitches out yesterday and I think she feels much more comfortable we caught her going down the stairs yesterday ! not bad for a blind dog with three legs !

Will have a quick clean through later and hopefully do some ebay listings, I am going to cook a chicken for dinner with jacket spuds and salad nice and easy.

Jackie O I HATE ironing, so much so that I no longer have an ironing board nothing gets ironed here apart from the table cloth at Christmas, I also love hanging washing out but hate getting it in and hate peeling spuds ! I love cleaning (and having a clean house) and love any kind of baking / cooking.

Molly glad things seem on the up, how about asking your mum to do a little job for you ? say peeling the spuds, you could say it hurts your hands or something, it might just start her interest off again if she thinks you need help.

Topsy how is the new baby ?

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning everyone, mixed weather here this morning sunny but lots of big looming black clouds in amongst it. I've scheduled lots of indoor jobs for the next couple of days so when the showers come I can dash back indoors and be busy, seems like a good plan!

MOLLY so pleased the visit to Dad was good for you all, love the goldfish recognising your Dads voice, I'd love to have seen it and glad Mum and Dad were pleased to be together too. I wonder if all that's wrong with Mum is that she doesn't like change? I find myself that I don't adapt to changes so well now I'm getting older and it takes a bit of time to become accustomed to the new things that life sometimes forces on me. Takes a bit of time to get used to and then it's OK. I'm pleased she's settled at home with you and hopefully that will make things a little easier for you too. How's Little Miss Molly getting on these days, she must be finishing her first year of uni? it doesn't seem possible it's been a whole year, hope she's enjoyed it and is enjoying being back at home again (assuming she's finished) I know you'll enjoy having her there!!!

Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Morning - how nice to wake to read great posts. Life is a circle of events. I did laugh when reading about the goldfish recognising Molly's Dad's voice.. never thought about that before.

Rain overnight but I woke to find the field in front of the house full of sheep. Must have been brought in very early as I was awake at 6.00a.m. and they weren't there. So now I can see, in once glance, a field of sheep, a field of cows and the sea. Somehow it all calms me down.

EDIT _ Tide was coming in and is now almost fully in.

I haven't ironed for years, don't have an iron or an ironing board. Gave it up. Waste of time. Waste of moaning about it. :j

Today I'm going to explore the local area more, there are some ancient sites I haven't yet been too and more standing stones and brochs/duns to visit. My vacuum is being temperamental and is awaiting the return of OH to sort it out - I can manage fine without the need to vacuum.

My OS contribution is a NSD - got more than enough of everything so will resist the urge to shop. Think it's just a habit?

    Happy Sunday everyone.
