Inside most of Barclays banks are machines that can deal with lots of things you might normally go to the cashier for or do online. Get printouts of DD's and cancel DD's order paper statements etc. I suspect they are intended for people who might not normally have access to internet banking - ironic that isn't it...georgiasmum wrote: »branch banking machines? sorry to sound dumb but what are they?0 -
If I remember correctly you can also apply for loans etc. on those machines and their system isn't quite cleaver enough to identify you as BR and some people might slip through the net which they want to avoid.

I opened a Barclays account the day before I went BR. I told them everything, including that I owed Barclaycard a not insignificant sum. They could not have been nicer. They even got me a box of tissues when I started crying and provided good support. As a BR you can only have a basic account. In a way I quite like it as it makes you really focus on what you are spending and keeping an eye on it. I have a new plan that I take out the cash I am 'allowed' for food and petrol and divide it into weekly envelopes - if I run out in a week, I must wait to open the next weeks envelope. It's a crude system but works for me. Good luck - at least Barclays let you have an account and everyone I've encountered in my branch who knows my situation is very kind and helpful.0
