Broadband - don't need phone.

We have 4 mobiles in the house plus work supplied iphones, I don't really need a land-line (or do I).

Whats the best way (cost effective) to have broadband without a telephone being connected (or am I looking at this from the wrong angle)?

At the moment we have a Tesco line (any time calls), was with O2 for BB but that has now been ported to Sky - they are charging me £18+ per month which I view as nothing more than a rip-off and I refuse to remain with them.

Best way forward.

I would suggest in the first instance, phoning up Sky and asking what they can do, once you are out of contract.

I have just managed to get Sky line rental and broadband for £14 per month, all-in.

Tesco are offering free broadband to new customers who take line rental, which works out at £15.40 per month.

Generally, you need a phone line to have broadband, so it'll be a matter of having a hunt round to see what the best deal is.

You could have Virgin broadband installed, which would negate the need for a phone line, but won't be the cheapest option.

The other option would be to use the 4G/3G internet on your phone and tether it to your laptop. How much this'll be will depend on your phone contract and won't be as fast as BB via a line/cable/fibre.

I am not under contract however I am not open to giving Sky my money. £18 pm for internet only has soured the relationship.

While I accept this, I would consider moving to a cable provider (yes I realise that's another line to rent).

Just don't want to jump from frying pan to fire.

With VM you won't need to take the phone service to have broadband-however the cost saving will be minimal.
Any ADSL or FTTC service requires a working landline-which means paying line rental.
If you don't make any landline calls, why did you sign up for Anytime calls? That's just throwing away about £60 pa.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Oh would spend hours on the phone yapping to sisters and friends "because its free". The penny has been slow to drop.

It's only 'free' (inclusive actually) for the first hour...
