wireless fibre bb cutting out

My brother's wireless keeps cutting out for a couple minutes frequently.

He has no problem connecting via ethernet.
Wireless drivers claim to be up to date.
We tried resetting the router.
My other brother also upstairs is having 'internet problems' but my mum and dad downstairs have no issue with their wireless.

Any thoughts appreciated as he has homework to complete.

We have had ISP conflicts in the past but it usually comes up with a message and those get reset when we reset the router as far as i understand it.

Thank you.

OK via Ethernet then its not the ISP .

Where is the router and what sort of signal as this reads like signal not reaching .

Thanks he has the 4/5 bars of signal strength, i moved some things away from the router and now it is the full 5/5 signal strength, we've been having no issues with the set-up for almost 5 months now.

Actually the wifi was rubbish before but virgin gave us their newest router couple months ago and its all been plain sailing since. No cut out issues with the old router though it was just a poor signal period. [well documented online from others.]

Signal strength is only part of the equation.
A 100% signal strength does not equate to 100% signal quality.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Any way to test signal quality? What steps if any do i have to go through to single out the problem?

    Cheers.

get the bod upstairs to run inSSIDer on his pc, it'll tell you if there is an interfering wifi channel in use (e.g. a neighbour's router). This will help you select a wifi channel on your router which may well be enough to cure his problem.

My copy was free - keep searching. The new Superhub uses two bands - a 5G connection is less prone to issues - so make sure brother is connecting to the 5G signal.

Only the 2g signal comes up, it may be his laptop is too old to pick up 5g, my dad's mac downstairs gets it though.

His friend's new dell is doing the same thing upstairs but the pc's downstairs are fine. So it seems localized upstairs, the router is between the two rooms having issues in the upper stairway on a cupboard. It's always been there.

He just told me his phone is doing the same thing upstairs and down, phones is brand new.

Also my mum and dad aren't using the internet all day downstairs so may be they haven't realized its cutting out.

didn't realise they'd started charging for v4 (even so, $20 not $100, and invaluable if you need to troubleshoot lots of wifi problems), here's the free version 2 download:-
