just bought a 2nd hand car, obd light came on for 30 seconds and hasn't been on since and drove for a couple hours more.
Is this defo a problem or could it just be because I was over reving as I was getting used to it?

If the light came on a fault will be stored in the ECU,I would wait a while and see If it appears again and if it does take it back If bought from a dealer .0

Give it a hoofing, find out....... Your only other option is get fault codes read, but that might not show anything.
Did it come on when cornering? If so it could be low coolant, oil or brake fluid levels.
Get under the hood and check those out.
If you got it from a dealer, you need to find any faults before it's too late to go back and say "hey, this car's faulty".“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Give it a hoofing means read the code? Sorry not technical
Just bought a Bluetooth device from Amazon to read the code, hopefully this will gibe me more info0 -
Over revving - highly unlikely.0

Giving it a "hoofing" means drive it like you stole it...or in plain English, don't bother changing gear until you hear it bouncing off the rev limiter.PollySouthend wrote: »Give it a hoofing means read the code? Sorry not technical
The concept behind that is to see if the fault can be brought on again, and if so, at what point it occurs.
What software are you using in conjunction with the BT adaptor to read the various ECU's the car has?PollySouthend wrote: »Just bought a Bluetooth device from Amazon to read the code, hopefully this will gibe me more infoUndersteer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Italian tuneup maybe a more common phrase. Give it a good run and get the
revs and speed up to see if all is well.
Within the speed limits obviously.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Ok thanks I'll try driving it like someone that can't change gear!
The Bluetooth thing hasnt arrived yet, think I can just use an android app to read it. Although it sounds like the code will not be that useful0 -
Is it an Elm327 dongle off eBay?
If it is you can get an Android app called Torque which is brilliant. There is a free version and the paid version is onle a few quid.0 -
What car is it?
I have a ford reader which plugs in to a laptop using USB and came with software. Was brilliant. Have brief descriptions not just codes. Maybe yours is similar0 -
If it was only on for 30 seconds it's almost certainly a blip in emissions. If it were anything else it would be on for longer. Forget about it unless it keeps happening. Or you car breaks down.0
