Holiday Homes

I'm sorry if this isn't in the correct place and maybe someone could move it to the right place if not.

Basically, my husband and I are considering getting ourselves a holiday home, possibly a static caravan on one of the parks. We were wondering which places may be best to look at in Cornwall. We are open to any other suggestions too.

Thanks in advance.

  • Don't know about Cornwall but i had a static caravan at Holburne Naish near the New Forest for a few years.

I loved it but it was VERY expensive.

We would have been better off buying somewhere down there and i suspect given Cornwall is relatively cheap that may be the better option (financially).

What you pay for a new caravan - approximately 30k with 15 years lease @ 5k per year, you could easily afford to buy a place and just pay the mortgage.

Perranporth is quite cheap and right on the coast. There are two main ones there: the big park at the top of the big hill, but overlooking the beach; there's one on Liskey Hill, which is a downhill/uphill trek to the beach.

I should add more: great local butcher, great shops (CoOp and a Costcutter), chinese takeaways, indian takeaways, chip shop, kebab kiosk, paper shop .... great choices of where to buy hot pasties, lots of cafes and some good pubs in the village and just outside (Bolingey). Bus route to Truro and Newquay.

Beach is very sandy, with a great bar on the beach.

We used to go to Perranporth quite often when we lived down in Cornwall. I forgot what a lovely beach it is.

Is the big park you're talking about Perran Sands?

I too was considering buying a static caravan. However, I am concerned about the depreciation of the van and when it will be requested to move off the site due to the age. This has put me off really.

Would you not get bored going to the same caravan park for every single holiday?

I have a holiday home at Widemouth Bay Holiday Village, there are quite a lot of chalets for sale at the moment on Rightmove. To me they seem better value than a caravan,we are just getting new 99year leases.

It is a lovely family site, fantastic views of the sea, indoor pool, small bar etc.

Not really as we would only really be using it as a base.

We are now considering buying a chalet as opposed to a caravan especially as you can buy a chalet practically for the same price as a caravan!

Penstowe Park at Kilkhampton has chalets on Rightmove cheaper than Widemouth Bay,I don't know anything about it though.

Widemouth Bay site is dated, but there are plans to rebuild the bar area.I have got my chalet lovely inside. You can walk to the beach down a lane.

Also you need to check opening dates. My chalet I can use all year round.Penstowe Park I think is only able to be used for eight months.
