Multiple 'default monitor' annoyance

I am curious...when I look under 'device manager' and 'monitor' I notice that not only is my monitor listed (Sharp LL172AB) but also two 'default monitors'. Can anyone explain why this would be and why when I uninstall them, they reappear?
Incidentally, my graphics card is an NVIDIA Geforce4 MX440 and I have only ever connected one monitor at a time.
Cheers.

Windows dosn't match up your driver with your monitor and is installing a generic "universal" driver.
This is incase you installed the wrong driver, you would have a useable disply ect..
from experiance, windows is usually fairly accurate in detecting wrong drivers, it's mostly the case that you have the correct manufacturer but the wrong model.
Check the back of your monitor for the model number the get the most recent driver from the manufacturer.
You can safely delete the wrong entries in device manager, windows will always load a generic monitor driver if there is a problem during bootup.

I wouldn't delete other monitors, as most probably those entries would come up again after next reboot. Normally multiple entries for monitors are present for advanced video cards and represent different outputs available (main, s-video, etc).0

Hi mate, yes I think you are correct in that, someone else said the same thing in another forum - my card does have other outputs. Also my monitor is using the correct driver for the model.
Thanks.0 -
You have to enable other monitors in display properties to enable Geforce4 MX440 ports.
You can check there if windows has enabled them, theyr'e set to one monitor by default when you install geforce drivers.
updating your geforce drivers solves latest reported driver problems and is worth doing.

if you dont have two or three monitors installed (big box's that shout stop it, and illegal operation. lol) then delete two of the drevers, they arn't doing anthing (adressing monior port, and sending interupt requests).0

Thanks. I only use one monitor and still the 2 'default' monitors sit there in device manager..teasing me! I guess they should stay there (as someone else suggested) because the MX440 has other outputs ... apparently.0

Boot up into safe-mode. Goto device manager and click View then click Show Hidden Devices
Delete all your monitors just for the fun of it. Restart and see how many come back.
Mine does this when i'm playing with ATi drivers, doing the above clears all the old redundant devices for me.0 -
I have done this before 'T4i', following a write-up somewhere online. They also recommended uninstalling the graphics card drivers and so on. Neither of which worked!0
