Apologies for the triplicate, but it does seem that Npower pick up on threads about them - albeit just to make the right noises and still do nothing. Here is a summary - taken from my comments here over the last few weeks:
2/5/14:
Just a quick rant. Left Npower in November. Until yesterday they still hadn't finalised my bill. They finally calculated that they owed me just over £60. I appreciate that they are grossly inefficient, but I do resent getting the following email...
Just wondering if I should share their payment information with credit reference agencies.
17/5/14:
We left NPower in November, and finally at the end of April they calculated that they owed me just over £60. despite 2 promises to refund me the money nothing has happened. If it was me that owed me them the money I doubt they'd have shown as much patience.
22/5/14:
I called them on Wednesday and politely advised them that I'd be pursuing the matter through the small claims court if they continued to withhold payment, and a very helpful advisor took my number and promised to ring me tomorrow (Friday) to let me know if payment had finally been arranged. Seems the previous two promises to process payment were not carried out. I will await her call.
24/5/14
So Friday comes and goes. No phone call from Npower, and still no payment. I'll be starting proceedings against them on Monday.
It's also worth pointing out that Npower took £88 from my account on 2/1/14. This was not the normal monthly dd, and nor was it on the normal date for the dd. At this point I owed them around £27 based on the eventual calculations, so it would be nice to know how they came to this figure. If it was an estimate it was a pretty poor one, and clearly calculated in their favour. If they had bothered to calculate my final bill (they'd had a month by then to have done it), then this scenario would never have happened.
I can only conclude by warning all of you to NEVER consider using Npower. That's Npower by the way. yes - Npower.

We’d just like to confirm that we’ve cancelled your regular payment scheme.
We’ll send your final bill shortly, which you’ll need to pay in full when you receive it. On the back of your bill you’ll find details about ways to pay and ways we could help you with your energy bills.
If you do not keep up repayments and you are repaying a debt to us, we may share your payment information with credit reference agencies, which will affect your overall credit rating and may affect your ability to obtain credit in the future.Just wondering if I should share their payment information with credit reference agencies.

Quick update for you. Linda from Npower rang this morning. She does seem to be trying to sort this out and I am grateful for her efforts. However they still haven't sorted it out - blaming "system error". Seems like the system suggests a cheque has been issued, but on drilling down, this is not the case. Linda is pursuing the matter and as I say she should be commended for her efforts, but the company itself clearly is a shambles.0
-
And another update. Linda called again and said a manual cheque will need to be raised which will take another 7 - 10 working days. Linda has clearly done her best here but this really is very unsatisfactory.0

A colleague here at work is having a similar shambles with Scottish Power ... she has referred it to Ofgem.0

Hi Bod, Yes- I have too, but as "the problem" is less than 8 weeks old (although that's debatable) they couldn't help at this stage. I will give them (sigh) another 2 weeks before a) contacting Ofgen again, and b) starting legal proceedings.0

Ouch. It doesn't sound like you are having fun with Npower too. I have now at last got a final bill out of them. But not yet received payment. I really hope I don't end up having to wait as long as you for them to sort it out.
Good luck!0 -
My only advice is too keep ringing them. If the direct debit is still live they "can" get the money into your account within 3-5 working days (whether they actually do is of-course another matter). Call them at least every week. Best of luck.
It really is diabolical though isn't it? A major company behaving like some mickey mouse bad debtor hanging on to OUR money until the last possible minute. Hopefully at least 500 people who've seen these threads will take heed and never consider them as a supplier.0 -
There is a big problem with the billing system. I changed my account and because it was supposed to take 19 days to set up my direct debit was taken out of an old account i hadnt used since september the previous year. npower then said they would cancel the account details and reset up under new account once again this was not done. I received an email stating my dd had be cancelled and to make payment which i did only to find out that it had gone out of my new account after all a complete shambles. This was after ringing and speaking to a team manager who took money of me by credit card as he assumed it wasnt set up when it was it then took 7 days to get my money back which i shouldnt have paid in the first place. To add insult to injury i was being told direct debit has to be set up and they would cancel my account and put me on standard rate unbelievable. Also i was in credit anyway of nearly £200.00 so i didnt even owe money.0

I had exactly the same problem with Scottish power. I googled who their CEO was and emailed the email address that i found on the internet. Even though i don't think for one minute it is the correct email address, it was funny how quickly an Operations manager emailed me back and started to deal with the problem!!!
Find out some email addresses for some senior Npower managers and send off an email. Failing that Watch dog is back on the TV and Anne loves to give the energy companies a hard time :-)0 -
Good tip AJ. I'll give them every chance to fulfill their promise, but after that I'll try that route.0

Do keep us posted as to how u get on. I am also having problems getting my money from these cowboys. Account closed Dec, final bill received Feb. 3 phonecalls later and 3 promises of them refunding my £97 but nothing received. Called again last month and they promised a cheque within ten days and an additional £15 as a goodwill gesture but still nothing. If i owed them money i bet they would have sent the bailiffs round by now!!!0
