Time starts when fault is discovered, definitely, no, if's but's or maybes, time has not passed.

If this was correct then retailers could be held liable for faults that were discovered the day after the goods were purchased or 100 years after purchase.
Do you honestly think that this is the case?

Remember, in scotland it is 5 years from discovery.

I realise that, but as bris stated it's 6 years from discovery of a fault he must have been referring to cases in England as there is no 6 year period for Scotland.

Ah yes. Sorry shouldve explained more.

I meant that the time limit only related to bringing a claim. It does not mean that the retailer would be held liable/your claim would be upheld.

Which is why I stated that
"If this was correct then retailers could be held liable"
and not that they would be held liable.

Thank you everyone. The claim would be finite as it is based around the fact that the manufacturer provided a 10 year guarantee which they are now no longer able to honour. If they had remained in business then the faults would have been rectified. I will still check with the Ombusman.
