Sat 24 May/Sun 25 May - What small DFW things will you do this weekend?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.:money:

Well - internet is now up and running again - all is well with the world but the quicker they bring the rural broadband upgrade up our way the better....

Anyway - I have major plans for this weekend and then as DH is off on Monday & it's meant to be a nice day we want to go & see the Kelpies....

So weekend list (have no intentions of going out today so need tasks to keep me busy)
    • Stepford wife tasks
      • Tidy & clean house
      • All washing to be done & hung out - ironing planned in as well
      • Finish filing
      • Stack last of logs
      • Bring in logs & kindling for the week (it's not "really" warm up here yet & DH is in so much pain & I'm so stressed we're always cold)
      • Clean out the fridge:eek::eek:
      • Menu plan for week
      • Shop for week (tomorrow's challenge)
    • MSE tasks
      • Check banks
      • Play with spreadsheets
      • Freepostcode lottery
      • Plant up chillies/basil etc bought at end of year from Ikea
      • Call milkman to reduce milk to 2 pints a week
      • Plant up "salad bar" in big fire pit DH got cheap at the end of last year - the height will keep the dogs from investigating
    • Stuff for me (work/home stress is now telling on me and I don't want to join the others who are off sick/on blood pressure meds as a result)
      • Phone Employee Assistance Programme & start process of assessment(0800 number & keeps all the boxes ticked for work.)
      • Go to recycling to deposit glass stuff (only stuff the council doesn't lift)
      • Work out which of the 2 debit cards in my purse is valid & destroy the other one
      • Clean out handbag (yes - not being able to find stuff in it stresses me)
    • Other stuff
      • Garage needs a [STRIKE]bit of a clean out[/STRIKE] massive clean out - need to spend an hour in it as a start
      • If weather is good tomorrow will hunt out a deckscrubber in the garage & clean the decking
      • Need to spend time in the garden
So - I'll be busy but should feel well satisfied by tomorrow night - the peace of mind will be worth it.

Have a good weekend folks & I'll catch up later

I have now been on the DFW journey for 1 week, still feel like there is lots of things to do and get in place but taking it all one step a time.

That really is the best way and the most sutainable - before long the small steps will become habits and you'll not think twice about them.

Bagpuss, is it possible for you to pm me your Welsh cake recipe please?

Today I have been spending, but did get 500g minced beef for £1.95 which I've now portioned and put in the freezer.
Spend less now, work less later.

Small positive money saving things today:
*Successful city centre visit (we are reformed 'spenders') which included the following: Free cappucino & cakeypoo ('My John Lewis' card), Made pledge to get everything done within 4 hours before car park charges shot up to next level, Got all accessories for new bathroom using Debenhams vouchers earned from Toluna surveys, All home stuff at Debenham's was 20% off, so ended up with a spare £10 of vouchers which I'll save to buy a present, picked up 2 free catalogues which saved me being tempted by a magazine, bought a present to put away for Christmas because it was £3 & the recipient will love it. Did not get tempted by ANY unplanned spending even when a woman thrust a Lancome offer leaflet into my hand! I am NAILS these days with keeping the old cashola in my purse.
*Mr f refurbished the bathroom light instead of buying a new one. Looks good & doesn't let the new bathroom down. Result!
*Bought bubble bath from 99p Shop & decanted it into charity shop vintage glass decanter. Looks very classy. It struck me that this would also make a nice cheap but thoughtful gift for friends who like vintage stuff.
*Mr f decided the weather is too unpredictable to go ahead with his planned Bank Holiday BBQ......which meant we didn't need to go to the butcher's....where he always gets the 'red mist'......so money saved.
*Continue with current knitting project which is making tiny socks to sell. Am on 5th pair. Aiming to use all my odds & ends of sock wool up by making a whole basket of these. Very relaxing as know the pattern by heart & can still feel productive while I'm watching TV.
    Potentially NOT money saving: (BOOOO!)
Engine warning light came on today. Huge rain meant we'd driven home through some mega pools of standing water, so I'm wondering if that's got into the engine upsetting something or other. Leaving it overnight to see if it sorts itself out, but also trying to mentally prepare ourself that our hard fought-for WTSHTF fund may have to be pressed into service if there's a big car problem.
OK, off to pick a bunch of rocket now.....stir-fry piri piri pork tonight & it needs a big handful of rocket stirred in before serving.
