Just to get a start, can you post the exact version of IOS that your phone is running.0

Hi. It's 7.0.6 the latest one I believe. but I've had this issue on one with the 6.1.something aswell which I updated to the latest one also but still no change with the wifi.0
-
Also. I'm reluctant to believe its a hardware issue. As the problem seems to be intermittent and the phone is virtually brand new. The other one greyed out as soon as it was updated to the latest iOS.0

Also. I have erased all content and settings and removed everything from the phones. Without putting the stuff back on in case there was an app or something messing the phone about.0

Sorry. One is running 7.1.1 (this is the one that had the issue on 6 and was updated now works intermittently while the other is 7.0.6.0

You have 2 phones with this same issue? The coincidence is enormous. The lengthy Apple forum threads on this subject seem to conclude it is a borderline hardware failure triggered by IOS updates, Apple is secretly aware that this affects say, one in 5,000 iPhones.0

Yes I've been unfortunate enough to be hit on both phones. :-/0

I don't think you are going to get this solved then. It might make sense to sell the phones on Ebay with an honest description to people who don't plan to use wifi. Replace with Google Moto X phones because if they malfunction they only cost a fifth of the price.
The best theory I've read about the cause is, the enormous size of the a typical IOS download is what overheats the wifi chip and damages it - it keeps the wifi chip running at full tilt for a very long time. Better to download it via iTunes to be safe. The auto download can happen automatically without you being aware, perhaps while the phone is a long distance from your wifi router and in a bag where it can get hot. I am not sure how you prevent an auto download!
The way to go, apparently, is ensure you get the download via a computer and iTunes.
So there are 2 failings that Apple could address:
1. Don't force huge sneaky downloads on iPhone owners.
2. Design a phone that can be repaired at a realistic cost.0 -
How long did you have the phone for? Have a look at this http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange0
