Please can anyone help me with regards to how much compensation I can claim after a solicitor has failed to provide a service?

They have admitted liability for the issue and are now talking about an apology and financial compensation.

I am no expert, but if you want any sort of sensible answer I think you will have to go into a bit more detail, if possible about the exact nature of the 'failed to provide a service'?

Ask your new solicitor to deal with it.

^^This. You're not really going to get any sensible idea of what you can expect on an open forum like this. You need specialist advice.

The principle relating to damage for professional negligence is the same as for any tort; namely the damages will be awarded that put you back in the position that you would have been in had the negligence not occurred. In your case that is clearly not possible, given what you say about that mistake having implications for seeing your daughter. From what you have said I expect that some level of financial compensation would in order, but there isn't really nearly enough detail in the thread even for those with the relevant legal training to provide you with a figure. And indeed, I wouldn't necessarily advocate posting more details in public about what is clearly a very sensitive (and potentially ongoing) situation. As others have said, you should be seeking advice from your current solicitor.
