JSA over 60

Hi Group

My friend is a man who is 60 (born 26-02-1954) and currently on ESA, this may to an end shortly and he will be transferred over to JSA.

I believe in the past people over 60 did not have to actively look for work when on JSA, due to their age?

What is the situation currently for people in their 60 on JSA are the job centre as strict eg job seekers agreement, evidence, fortnightly signing etc?

Thanks for your replies in advance

Bill

Is your friend on income related ESA or contributions based ESA & what group was he put into? Better advice can be given once those facts are known.

As far as I am aware there are no separate rules for over 60s claiming JSA. I was claiming JSA 2 years ago aged 60 and they made me jump through all the job seeking hoops.

Don't tell me that, i'm 61 and failed my Atos medical, although i'm appealing i'm not hopeful and think they may make me go and sign for Jsa. So i was hoping you'd say they told you to go home and do the garden.

People in the past would have been able to claim Pension Credit when aged 60, and not have to look for work or be sick. This is no longer the case as the rules have changed and your friend will now not qualify for Pension Credit until 2019.

llD01 is correct - the swap over is the Pension Credit qualifying date - go onto gov.uk & find the pension date calculator - put your friend in as 'Female' & that'll give you the PC date (it was 60 coz Women used to retire at 60).

Are you sure of that date ?
I can claim Pension Credit from June 2016, and there's not that much difference between us.
Give the Dwp a ring and they'll give you an exact date.

The good news is that if you are over 60 you only have to do 16 hours a week and you can claim working tax credits if you are on a low wage.

Or just use the pension age calculator (linked to above) using gender as female,,, that is what the DWP staff would do if you phoned them.
