    Quote from NHS

The Consultant appointments process would only really be undertaken by someone who has worked in the NHS. You would need to be able to have a very clear understanding of this process for the job.

Im in the private sector trying to get into NHS.

Do your research then - its a national process so get reading! It is a very different recruitment process but its not rocket science BUT it is high profile so every organisation would want someone who knows what they are doing

Appreciate the replies, this is going from a private medical company to the NHS as a doctor.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm sure such process is available somewhere on the internet if you google. Alternatively, you could get in touch with someone within a hospital Trust who could tell you. Even better, if you had the time, you could request for the policy that relates to that practice under FOI.

My best friend applied for a band 7 job within the NHS having never worked in the health sector before. It said that NHS experience was preferred. She got the job against 5 people who all worked for the NHS already (as she found out later). Her boss said that she got the job because in addition to her personal qualities, she showed that she knew more about local issues affecting the NHS than many of the NHS staff their interviewed. They expected less from her yet she delivered more.

Maybe a ray of hope... few NHS jobs are advertised outside the health service until the internal recruitment process has failed to bring forward the right candidate. So your chances may be better than you think.
