Can anyone recommend a good 13 or 14 inch laptop?

My current laptop (Acer Aspire 1420T) is having some issues (random crashing, not shutting down properly, very slow sometimes etc), so as I use it everyday for my business and it is 3 years old, I'm looking for a new one. I will be backing everything up onto a hard drive and then transferring what I need to the new laptop.
I use my laptop as my main computer and have found that 14" is a good size for everyday use but also for portability when travelling. It's not a hugely common size and most online retailers lump them in with much smaller sizes when trying to narrow searches, so I'm struggling to find something.
Has anyone seen any good deals recently?
I don't want a Chromebook as it must have a decent amount of storage (250GB+) on the laptop, as I'm not always connected to the internet. I'd like it to have an ethernet port as my shared office does not have wireless internet, and also an SD card slot for ease of uploading photos. It must have a VGA cable so I can connect to a projector for meetings. A CD drive would be useful, but not essential. I'd quite like a light (sub 2.5kg) and thin laptop to make it easier when flying.
Budget is whatever it takes to get a decent, reliable laptop for everyday business use (I think I spent £350 on my current one, but as it's core to my business would spend up to double this now if necessary).
I would also possibly consider a 13" or 13.3" screen too, as there seem to be lots of those around.
I currently have an Acer and have had two Dells in the past; I don't know much about any other brands/reliability so any tips would be much appreciated. I don't want a Mac as I need software compatible with colleagues, who all use Windows.

I used to have Dell laptops as my work PC and they never once let me down. Prior to the Dell it was Lenovo, both did the job.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
