My daughter has a Nissan Mirca which we purchased for her. The car was new and came with a 3 year paint warranty. It is now just over 2 years old and paint has started pealing off the bumper revealing the black plastic behind. The areas affected are around the grill which is molded into the bumper but not painted, therefore there is a hard edge to the paint which has blistered and started to peal back from the grill in about six areas one of which is quite large.

She took it back to the supplying dealer who photographed the area and sent the pictures to Nissan for authorisation. I then got a call a week later from the dealer telling me Nissan have refused the warranty claim as the damage is stone chips, which is complete nonsense, the dealer said there was nothing more they can do.

I have contacted Nissan who have raised a complaint and a customer services manager then rang me, he asked me how many Nissan's my daughter had owned, I told him this was my daughter's first but the sixth one I had purchased (seems an irrelevant question to me as it is a warranty claim not a good will claim) said he will speak to the dealer and get back to me.

Anybody had a similar situation and if so how was it resolved.

stone chips create spot damage, even if the stone chip did initially break the paint it is not acceptable that it resulted in more paint peeling off.

I would not accept the paint chip claim at all though. Stand by your guns, it appears the paintwork was shoddy and was not primed properly or the plastic has not been prepped to take the primer.
  • Update, contacted Nissan customer care after having no reply from them for two weeks, they said they were still waiting for their warranty claims department who had rejected the claim to review the case.

At this point I confirmed with Nissan that the call was being recorded by them and I then told them I had had the car independently inspected by a VBRA registered car body shop and the inspection confirmed that the pealing paint was due to poor adhesion of paint to the bumper and was nothing to do with stone chipping as claimed by Nissan. I then told them they had 14 days to respond with a satisfactory solution to the issue or I would enter in no further correspondence, have the car repaired and seek the cost back through the small claims court. There was a silent pause and then the reply while we respect the view of independent body repair shops we need to speak again to the supplying dealer

Two days later call from dealer repair has been autherised by Nissan. Car was booked in and repaired last week.

These cars are made in the same Indian factory as some RHD Dacias -- the build quality and paint finish is very poor indeed on some of these.

Wouldn't have one given to me in all honesty.
  • BIL fathers Nissan juke 14 plate, is showing signs of front and rear bumper paint flake around the lights and bumper body line edges. the paint hasn't come away as to leave the plastic exposed but there are obvious bubbles where the paint has detached from the plastic bumper.

Nissan dealer says that the bumpers may still have molding lubricant spray on it underneath and hence why the paint hasn't adhered.
