Consultation meeting - Collegue or Union Rep

Options
I have a consultation meeting for redundancy coming up soon, and the letter states that I can take in a colleague or union rep. The union aren't interested because I have been with the employer less than 2 years, and I have no rights. Basically the employer does not acutally have go to through the process with me. All of this I am aware of and understand.
I do want to take someone in with me, and my question is can it be someone else who is also in the redundancy pool?

You might not have any formal rights but you pay your union fees to get representation when you need it and I'd be mightily cross with a union telling me they weren't interested after I'd been subbing them every month for years. And I'd be going back and telling them that, then looking for another union if they were still being unhelpful.

However if the company is saying you can take a colleague, then I think it can be the colleague of your choice if you're ok with them also being up for redundancy. I take it this is an individual not a collective consultation?

If they want to make you redunant then they need to go through the procces, you have the same rights to consult and look for suitable alternative.

Yes they can terminate for any reason but they are not it will be redundancy.

Anybody can be the witness, one trick with a small group is have one person do everyone so they know if thisngare being done fairly.

One thing to be aware of they may discuss the package which can include personal thing like salary by taking someone in you are in effect giving the company the permission to talk about anything to do with your employment relating to the redundancy.

Thanks folks, yes, it's an individual consultation. It's part of "re structuring" which is is apparantly an anual event.
My union were going at the end of my year with them anyway as I am not particularly impressed with them and I was changing to a slightly more millitant one, who I know are more agressive on redundancies. The unions attitude was "we have another place who is shedding 300, we need to focus on them".
I will have to have a chat with people at work, thanks again.
