MAC and this new BT.COM (was yahoo)

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I am a @btinternet.com customer but within the last few days BT have made me change to @btinternet.com which is through BT MAIL. The change over should of been straight forward but 3 days down the line and many many phone calls there are still problems. Every time I try and write emails it comes up 'there was a problem trying to save this email' and when I'm trying to send it says 'an error occurred while sending'.

AM I THE ONLY MAC USER WHO HAS PROS WITH THIS NEW SYSTEM?

ANY SOLLUTIONS AS 3 DAYS OF PHONE CALLS TO INDIA AND STILL NO WHERE?

Are you using this on the Mail program on your Mac or another program, or on the internet?
Good solution would be to use webmail instead (Outlook, Yahoo, GMail etc) so that you're not tied to the email service your ISP gives you...

Thank you. Yahoo is stopping so they have merged this with MY BT ACC & EMAIL so both accounts are now married up and 1 user name and password.

It may sound like i'm thick but on the bottom of MAC there is a stamp with a eagle on, is that what you are saying use instead of logging into bt all the time for email? ;)

    Another Mac user here.

I'm not having any problems with BT email at all.

You can use Apple Mail, the stamp icon, or any other mail client that runs on a Mac or you can access your emails via the web browser.

As far as I can tell I'm not affected. I have a couple of btconnect addresses and a btinternet email address. I access them all via Apple mail but do occasionally use the web interface for the btconnect emails which is Office 365.

Yahoo is stopping? I hope not i have about 50 email accounts with them.

Almost every site i sign upto gets a unique email address. I can tell where the spam comes from then.

It's "Mac" not "MAC" (which has a different meaning).

Instead of using a "free" email service, it's better to pay for your own Web address (a small annual fee) and use that for email. I do this and have unlimited email addresses and no problems with the Mac mail client.

Yahoo isn't stopping BT just aren't using them any more.

You on the wrong forum for this sort of radical thinking, that to get a half decent service/minimal problems you might actually have to pay for it.

On here the mantra is free free free free free is always best, whether that the AV security, programs in general, email or pretty well anything else.

OK Cathy36 - you're using the Mail app built into OSX. Do you remember setting the account up? You may need to check your settings in case any of them had to change. If you're receiving email OK, but can't send, then that would point to everything being OK except for your SMTP settings. Can you try to find those for your BT account and see if they're right? There'll be a server, and maybe SSL, port and encryption settings.

As above: if you can receive OK but not send, then it sounds like your SMTP server address is corrupted: check what it's set to in Apple Mail: it should be:
    mail.btinternet.com
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44917/~/bt-email%3A-what-are-the-settings-for-outgoing-and-incoming-mail-servers%3F
BT are giving you ludicrous info as usual: all that is happening is that they are switching to a different mail provider. You can still access your email either via a desktop program (such as Apple Mail) or via webmail.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
