Last year Barclays paid a dividend of £1.4 billion. So 1% of that is £14 million...

what has that got to do with banks refusing to lend, so that property they don't own, appreciates in price (even though no-one can buy it as they can't get a loan)?

I think other people have answered your question so far on this thread?

So why not show us your hand? It's time to put your cards on the table? I noticed you don't have a signature on your posts so we have no idea about your current situation, history or motivation to post on this forum....

You like to question people a lot..... So can you at least give us your current or past profession? Why do you bother to post on this forum? What is it you enjoy about this forum?
    Peace.

You seem very reluctant to answer a very relevant but simply question

-where should the following people live?
    - the 500,000 new immigrants to this country every year
-and the 100,000s of young people leaving home for the first time (plus others)

    what's your solution
    -buy their own home?
    -taxpayer funded property?
    -private landlords?
    -don't care?
    -don't know?
    -haven't thought about it?

With the greatest respect I will answer any question from you and enter an enjoyable debate and discussion, that is what I like about this forum.

However, we have reached a very interesting and more relevant point in our discussions....

Why are you very reluctant to share even general information about yourself? You have not stated that you would prefer to keep your circumstances private, which would be fair enough, albeit also very interesting in itself.

I am very happy to continue the debate, first, please can you decide how much you would like to reveal about yourself and let us know either way?
    Peace.

When you have no basis for an argument, abuse the plaintiff.

No actually. I read the wrong line in their accounts. That was their 2012 dividend. Last year it was £1.7 billion but it doesn't really make much difference...

KPMG, as liquidators for Lehmans, have done spectacularly well out of derivatives I would imagine. The creditors less so.
