Take away shops

Hi I hope someone can give me some advice as I don't really know where to start.

My partner used a local take away firm to purchase some food and paid by debit card the silly girl at the other end took the payment then cancelled it half way through saying it hadn't been taken, when my partner checked her card online the payment have been taken.

I spoke to the manager who advised the payment was cancelled and that the money would be returned with 48hrs this was nearly a week ago now and the money still has not been returned :mad:.

We are at our wits end as the manager is not responding to our calls and the money still has not been returned it is not a large amount of money but it is the principle that the silly girl admitted she made a mistake with the payment and it should have been returned.

Please can anyone advise if there is anything we can do as it is really annoying that the manager can get away with this.

    I had this happen with my a while ago ate out at a cafe and they took the money twice.
    My advise would be is to call your bank and raise a dispute. They will be able to pursue this for you and usually release the money back into your account straight away as they can tell sort of see that it is a duplicate as you would have two identical transactions.
    I expect the take away manager does not know what to do. HTH
  • Hi thank you for your reply, unfortunatly it's not that simple as the payment was already showing on my partners account she wouldn't let them take it again so there was only one payment taken.

    To make matters worse the card she paid with is a bonus card through work so it's not going to be as simple as getting the money returned:confused: .

    I've tried searching online to see if there is some regulating body that we could contact but no such look.

    You need to take it up with the card issuer. There's a minimum time you have to wait before raising a dispute (to give the refund time to come through the system), but they'll be able to let you know what that is. If the shop is adamant the refund has been made but it's not showing on the account then the card issuer is the only person who can help you.
