Retrieving lost loan & insurance details

I was sold an inappropriate insurance cover on a loan for a car. This was 4 years ago, the loan is paid off. I was having some health problems at the time, which deteriorated before I got better, but I was in hospital for a time and my belongings moved into storage. I can't find the credit agreement or the loan forms. If I go back to the dealership who sold me the car (I paid £54k in total) are they obliged to furnish the details?

You dont need the credit agreement or loan firms to make a complaint. So, why do you want them?If I go back to the dealership who sold me the car (I paid £54k in total) are they obliged to furnish the details?
Only if you pay £10 and do a data subject access request and they still have them on file.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If the dealership sold you the cover, if they sold it prior to January 2005, its game over, they weren't registered then.
If it was later, or you were sold a loan by a bank, go ahead and complain, but as dunston says, you'd need to send them a SAR and £10 to find out if there are any details left.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
If it was only four years ago when you repaid the loan then the car dealer should still have some information about it, phone them and ask. You could send a SAR which they are obliged to comply with. Also, if you paid by direct debit these will show on your bank statements, and can be useful as evidence of payment. If your loan was single premium (front loaded) this maybe a good enough reason to complain.0
