Do non-iron wash/dry programs actually work?

I'm getting a new front-loader washer/dryer and I'm wondering if I need one with 'bells & whistles'.
Regular washing stuff (just for my wife and me):
Shirts, t-shirts, socks, pants, towels, sheets and pillow-cases.
We don't iron much - :j - my polycotton shirts dry well on hangers after a good spin.
I find that tumble-drying the shirts leaves them very creased.
On to the question for you guys ......
Many washer/dryers claim a 'ready to wear' cycle or something similar.
Do these things work?
Can you just chuck in, wash/dry and put in wardrobe?

No, you can't. Basically, multi-programme washing machines are a stunt. The only programmes you really need are delicates/woollens (30 degrees, gentle), warm for colours (40 degrees) and hot for whites (60 degrees). The rest are never used.
But shirts can be dried without needing ironing if you just put them in a tumble dryer without too much other stuff.0
