Blurry shadowy text/images on screen? (pics)

My monitor suddenly started displying text/images which are very blurred/shadowy. I tried resetting the zoom in case that had been adjusted by accident. Are there any other checks/adjustments I can do or do I need a new monitor or maybe even graphics card? Is there an easy way to tell if the fault lies with the monitor or the graphics card?

It's a Dell Vostro desktop running Vista. The screen is blurry on both firefox and IE. The monitor is an Acer AL1717 and the graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS.

Thanks in advance for any input :)

Have you tried the Auto Adjust button on the monitor which is supposed to set focus amongst other things?

Is the resolution set to the optimum for the monitor?

What kind of monitor is it?
    How old is it?
Have you checked the cables are all properly connected?

You just saved me the cost of a new monitor :T I just poked the cables at the back and it's now working as normal. Can't believe I didn't check that first - doh!
