Fleas

I wondered if anyone can help/reassure me!
I am cat sitting this week for my dad. I am going round his house to feed/check on his cat.
This morning I was feeding him and noticed a flea on my foot. I killed it before it hopped away. My dads cat is frontlined every 4 weeks. He combed his cat last week and got nothing off him.
I have told my dad he needs to take the cat the vet and get something else as I've heard from some people that frontline is not as good as it was. He has used frontline since it first came on the market and said he has never had a problem.
Am I being over the top and worrying? I hate insects, I don't have any pets. Could I bring fleas back to my house? Would they breed without a cat/dog?

You need to treat the house as well as the cat if fleas have been brought into the house. I use Frontline, but the stuff you can only get from a vet not the stuff you can buy online and *touch wood* it's been fine so far.0

This is frontline from Boots, it says on the pack 0.5ml of fipronil, is that the same on as from the vets?Make £2012 in 2012: £27.60/£20120

I have 3 dogs and 1 cat, I use Panacur and spray my pets twice a week with Avon Skin So Soft to repel any unwanted visitors. Have'nt had any fleas for years..

its fipronil I believe which isn't working. Bob Martins contains the same amount of fipronil as frontline. so do other 'brands'.
Try using a 'Household' flea spray in the house (if you could take the cat away for half hour or so. it will help get rid of them).
Acclaim is a good one, so is Stronghold - both around £12 -£15 a can from Petsathome.
right now I am trying the one made by Armitage which is a herbal based 'repellant'. My cat has picked up the odd flea - and I then give him a Johnsons 4 fleas tablet. seems to be working well so far. or at least I haven't been 'infested' by fleas!0 -
I use advantage or Stronghold as I believe that Frontline is not as good as it used to be.
Regarding household flea sprays use Indorex or if they still wont go get foggers. Also you need to spray round the skirting boards, hover the whole house and strip the beds and wash all the bedding and hover the matresses.
Dont waste your money getting cheap flea spays for £3.00, they wont work. Good luck.0 -
Fleas can come back if you don't treat the house. Also they might not be cat fleas?**Debt Free as of 15:55 on Friday 23rd March 2012**And I am staying that way
