USB 2.0 Host internal card problem

I brought a USB 2.0 card to fit internally into my PC.
I loaded up the driver and the computer then asks to restart which is does ... but then the pc freezes and goes blank! I then have to choose the option to go back to previous settings to start up my pc successfully.
My pc then keeps saying it's found new hardware (yes, well done - I know already! ) which I try to do but it says it can't find the driver - even with the cd still in the drive.
I've tried plugging different things into the card - I mean plugging a scanner or printer into the usb ports
and then my screen goes blank and takes a couple of seconds to come back up - very worrying.. I had a pc die once it started doing that before (apparently the processor konked out!)
Do you think the card itself is faulty??? should I send it back.
I've already tried the cards website but it says XP drivers are on the CD - which I've obviously tried... and the site only has previous os drivers.
any suggestions would be great.. thanks
PS: my PC is a cheap refurbished one from PC world (my last one lasted 4 years so a good bargain!)

Take the card out, reboot, make sure all is well, shut down the pc, insert card (into different slot) power up the PC and if it happens again send the card back as faulty.0

Try removing the driver, Reboot the computer, then use the wizard and point to your cd drive when it asks for a driver, it might work. HTH. Alan.Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0

Seems like the card has compatibilty problems with your p.c, right click on my computer go to Devices and hardware check what the title is there if it is showing high speed 2.0 it's done it's job (After reloading as PaulK said) but if it doesn't do send it back.. www.a-dcomputers.com are great for help and advice on issues like this. I recently had an issue where my Adobe CS3 was not loading on my P.C and called them and they slowly talked me through the settings at no charge, which is great.... good luck"What we see and what we hear is what we think about. My advice is to search the net for later drivers, I prefer to not use the drivers that come boxed if I can avoid it.0

I had tried this but only found the cards website which said the latest for xp was on the disc!! I was hoping that they had updates or patches for any errors but none on there.
I will try the other suggestions and hopefully that will sort it... fingers crossed.Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date

Ok, took out the card and removed the driver.. reloaded everything and my wacom tablet works and so does my scanner... unfortunatly it doesn't recognise my camera or mobile connections and my belkin wireless doesn't even show up when plugged into the card but does in the old USB 1 port (and now shows as connected but no internet  I think that's more the livebox (orange modem & router) issue as I've had a nightmare with that before!
Plug and play used to be just that - nowadays it's more plug repeatedly then kick the computer around the room!
at least I know the card is ok!
