Experia hotel booking disaster!

Have you tried emailing expedia rather than phoning?
If they asked for the bill from the hotel and the hotel won't give you anything, scan or screenshot your credit card bill. And then see what they say...given in the first case they asked you for the bill, it doesn't sound like they have shut you down completely.
If you contact them by email or via their website then you'll have a better record of the exchanges too.
If you log into Expedia what does it show anything for your booking (it's been so long since I have used them that I can't test what detail is stored for past hotel bookings).
I can see how it would be frustrating if you genuinely thought you had cancelled and have now been charged...but as others have said it sounds like you'll be at their mercy if you cannot prove it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Did you speak to anyone after you pressed 3? If so you may be able to get a recording of the call
The same thought crossed my mind. Did the OP press 3 and wait to speak to someone to assist with the cancellation, or just press 3 and put the phone down thinking that's it, all cancelled...0 -

I thought the same too!
OP - when you ring Expedia before you hit 3 to cancel how did you identify yourself. Did you type into your phone pad a reference number?

Yes I put in my reference number(they call it an Itinerary number).
when I didn't receive an email I tried the same process again. This time I was told that my Itinerary number didn't exist anymore so I assumed the booking had been cancelled.0 -
after you pressed 3 did you have any sort of message or anything on the phone?
I think what others are suggesting is that it may be you press 3 then someone comes on the line to discuss with you. I can understand how if you tried again and the itinerary wasn't found you would have assumed all was sorted, but could be that you mistyped or something?Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
