Nikon D2x SLR Digital Camra

Options
Can anyone help, I am looking for the Nikon d2x at the moment I can't buy this from anywhere without it costing an arm and leg I have been advised on importing it from the US but I am slightly skeptical as the warranty will be void if I were to do this. It would be great if I could find this somewhere in the UK for a good price Can anyone help.....

You would still have wrranty I believe, but you'll have to pay import tax etc and it could end up costing the same price!

Ebay shops may be a good one. I'd try posting on the "i wanna buy it or do it" forum for best prices :) also check out pixmania.

This is a top of the range professional camera, it will cost an "arm and a leg" where ever you buy ii.

Just plod through Google, even without entering any sites, there are prices shown from £3055 to £2300 - that is, of course, body only !

Not sure of the warranty issues if brought from abroad but I do know that electronic goods have particular directives that they have to abide by and also display on the item like Weee, CE, Rohs etc.... so be careful when purchasing something as expensive as this from abroad.

try /www.digicombos.com it is listed on this website for $3499. With sterling being so strong at the moment this will be around £1749.50.

But if you are going to spend this much on a camera instead of taking a risk why don't you just pay that little extra and buy it from a licensed dealer in the UK.

Hi - If cost is an issue have you considered getting a D200 - the same build quality and most of the features of the D2x; given that nikon are likely to announce a replacement for the D2x in the coming months I'd be loath to spend thousands on a camera at the end of its commercial life-cycle. I imagine you have existing nikon glass not to be looking at the full frame Canon 5D?

[edit] Forgot to post this: if it has to be a D2X - and I assume you want the current version the D2Xs - then OnestopDigital is probably the cheapest place to get it:

Warranty issues are definitely something to consider.
If you import a camera from the abroad, then the warranty will generally only be honoured by the vendor - in other words, if there's a fault you need to take it back to the shop you bought it from. You may be able to get an international warranty, or the manufacturer may cover it regardless but in a lot of cases models or spec is different from country to country so it's easy to tell eg Canon Digital Rebel in the US was the Canon 300D in the UK.
The serial number is a sure fire give away regardless of model number or spec.

As has been stated, a quality piece of kit will be expensive no matter where you go, just because it's high quality.
As for the warranty, I've imported/brought back 2 different Canon DSLRs and never had a problem with warranty because i've never had to use it.
Check http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ and you'll see some grey import lenses - you can read about the difference in grey imports and US models there. I assume the same system is in place for camera bodies.

Must it be a Nikon D2x? What about the next model down the Nikon range or even a Canon?

That's when a lot of people are tempted - me included. Yes the model is being superseded but it's still brand new with the same guarantee and still meets my requirements but normally the price has been dropped to encourage sales of the replacement model.

I don't buy stuff immediately after release - i wait a while for flaws/faults to be ironed out. Better to wait a few months or even a year or two for problems to appear so you know what to look for.

I've no problem with that philosophy - in the same vein, a D200 body can currently be had for £755 from currys - see camerapricebuster.co.uk for the required code to bring the price down.
