Jet washing roof tiles on house

I know there have been a lot of negative stories out there about dodgy roofing companies offering to jet washing your roof tiles to make them appear new and then sealing them with some spray of some sort. I also read the the industry body advised against jet washing the tiles as it can damage them because they lose their protective coating and because of people walking on them.

What are others views on this and how else can we have the tiles cleaned, moss removed etc. I dont fancy replacing my otherwise good but over 70 year old roof tiles.

    Don't do it.

If the moss bothers you that much scrape it off.

Jet washing a roof causes more trouble than it's worth. The spray is far too fierce. Just brush off with a stiff brush and check any mortar joints for cracking while up there.

That doesn't leave me with a clean roof though - still looks dirty.

It's the roof... does it really matter?

I did our double garage roof no problem . Takes a time though, with concrete tiles the moss does not come off easily and needs working at to shift.

If the house is over 7oyrs old it will look better with a weathered appearance. If it's not broke don't try and fix it.

Two neighbours have recently had this done professionally. I must admit when compiling a list of things to spend a couple of hundred of quid on, having the roof cleaned is probably around 1387th on my list...

There's a row of about 6 terraced houses near me. One had his roof jetwashed, the others didn't. Guess which house had most of his ridge tiles come off in the heavy winds this year?

The house is being redeveloped so it won't look so old.

Besides my question is not what is being answered here.
