large party booking

can anyone confirm what the travel agent has told us?

My friend is getting married in skiathos and she wants to book a package for 6 couples to go. The travel agents says its cheaper to book as one party than for each individual couple to book online because as one couple books, the next couple that book will find it more expensive and so on. Is this true?

The way airlines work is they will have multiple fare buckets and have so many seats in each
When booking multiple people on one booking they all need to be at the same fare basis

    example
    4 seats left at £100
next fare is £150 and they have 6 seats in that
    next fare is £200

If 2 people book they will get offered the £100 fare x 2
If 6 people book in one booking they will be offered the £150 fare x 6 (total spend £900), however if the 6 people book in couples, the first couple will get £100 each as will the second couple and then the £100 seats will be sold out so the next couple will get the £150 (total spend £700)

If you have 12 people to book together you will be offered the £200 fare = £2,400
    but by booking in couples it would be (£100 x 4)+(£150 x 6)+(£200 x 2)= £1,700

So, unless the airline will give a special discounted fare for a group booking, I actually believe the reverse it true from what you have been told

you may get a discount for a large group booking with a package holiday,
we got a quote for 11 of us to go all inclusive with Thomson a few years ago, the travel agents contacted Thomson and came back with a good price for the group, it was roughly one adult for free if we booked with them

I personally wouldn't risk booking 6 individual bookings online, how do you know there's 12 seats left on the plane, you might book the first 5 then find out its full then what will you do. I also wouldn't want to book online because if you have any problems between now and then communication isn't easy its either by email or many hours spent on the phone. You may think nothing will happen but speaking from experience it does, people split up, get made redundant, fall out etc etc much easier to speak to someone face to face.
