Don't forget, usually you can offset most if not all of any early exit fee by cashback possible when switching supplier.
… and in doing so lining the pockets of the switching companies’ shareholders who are quite content to perpetuate the pretense that they are providing a service to the public by offering trinkets to unsuspecting consumers whilst in reality boosting the overheads of the energy suppliers and sucking huge sums of money out of the market which of course have to be paid for by, guess who?, the consumers in the form of higher prices. If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.0 -

What nonsense.
How is giving away money lining the pockets of shareholders?
ByY not giving it away (e.g. by switching directly using the supplier) then that may be lining the shareholders pockets not not them giving away money.0 -
Never said they didn't.EDF screw up too
Did you read my post at all? I even mentioned a problem I had with a previous EDF account. I gave my reasons quite clearly.Have you seen my recent postings about EDF?
Can't agree with that. Look at customer satisfaction scores on USwitch, if all suppliers were as bad as each other, they would all be in first place with equally poor ratings. Instead there are vast differences.I believe they are all as bad as each other, so I am another that would go for the cheapest.0 -

How is giving away money lining the pockets of shareholders?
ByY not giving it away (e.g. by switching directly using the supplier) then that may be lining the shareholders pockets not not them giving away money.... lining the pockets of switching companies' shareholders ...
Switching companies are leeching off the drive for more competition in the market and competition is about choice not squeezing every last penny and sustaining the confidence trick that choosing wisely means placing price above all other aspects of choice.... sucking huge sums of money out of the market which of course have to be paid for by, guess who?, the consumers in the form of higher prices. If money saving starts to involve irritation or frustration the fine line between thrift and greed should be examined.0 -

More nonsense.
Suppliers pay the switching companies as part of their marketing. If they didn't use switching companies they'd be giving the money to a commericial radio or TV company, newpapers or other advertising avenues.
At least the switching companies provide a comparison service, and guess what, yes businesses have to earn a living if they are to survive.
If you switch direct with the supplier you don't get any discount.
Following your logic, I suppose the various sporting events that attract sponsorship/advertising are leeeches too ...
You are free to choose any supplier and tariff available ... even the reassuringly expensive ones even though you'll still get exactly the same gas/electricity no matter who you decide to pay for it.
(You do realise this site is about saving, not wasting, money don't you?)0 -
Not sure who this is aimed at, but I'll take it.You are free to choose any supplier and tariff available ... even the reassuringly expensive ones even though you'll still get exactly the same gas/electricity no matter who you decide to pay for it.
I'm only paying a few pennies more, so not 'reassuringly expensive' as you call it.
Money saving within your own set boundaries.(You do realise this site is about saving, not wasting, money don't you?)
As an example, you could save a lot of money by not eating, though it wouldn't do much for your health.
Saving money for the sake of saving money is after all pretty pointless. Money is only useful when exchanged for something you want.
You could look at somebody and say "Pfftt... Why did you waste hundreds of thousands of pounds on a house, when you could save it all and live in a card board box? A cardboard box is much cheaper!" But would the person who made such a decision be classed as a money saving expert, or a fool?0 -
I'm sure you will, but I'm not continuing with this silly discussion. Not sure who this is aimed at, but I'll take it....
If you are happy to pay more than you need for the same product, that's up to you.
As for not eating to save money, that's like not using any gas or electricity to save money and so is a rather sad attempt to embroil me into your silly little arguement.0 -
How gracious. Instead of listening to reason, you'll just walk off.I'm sure you will, but I'm not continuing with this silly discussion.
It isn't the same product though, that is the point you seem to miss. Unless of course you believe that all the suppliers are doing is taking money in return for electric and gas. What about customer support? What about billing services? If you are happy to pay more than you need for the same product, that's up to you.
Most complaints here about NPower stem from their awful computer systems that mess up bills (if you are lucky to get one), and most complaints here about Spark stem from the fact they never answer the phone or reply to emails.
If I choose to pay a few pence more to know that I can get a bill generated when I need to, and that when I phone somebody will actually pick up at the other end, then I believe it is a sound investment.
If everything was controlled by a central company and the suppliers were simply company names that all linked to the same outfit but with different prices, I could see your point.
No, it's called an example. It was used to illustrate that saving money can be taken to extremes, and that everybody chooses a level that is comfortable to them.As for not eating to save money, that's like not using any gas or electricity to save money and so is a rather sad attempt to embroil me into your silly little arguement.0
