Has anyone had positive experience of using EU directive 1999/44/EC (this states a 2 year guarantee applies to all consumer goods sold in the EU)
I think you'll find that that directive only gives the consumer two years in which to seek a remedy from a seller.
It does not guarantee the goods for two years.

The UK's Sale of Goods Act gives the consumer up to six years to seek a remedy from the seller.

Anyway, that directive is not law... just an instruction that EU member states must implement the requirements into their own laws, and as you can see the UK legislation more that meets that directive.

It may be worth contacting Kenwood in this instance, my mother has a kenwood kettle and it was 2 yrs old and she had lost the receipt when it failed, she only paid around £20 for it in the first place. She sent kenwood an email just asking if it was a common fault and explained it was low value and no receipt. They got back to her asking for her address and sent her a new kettle of the same model.

They really didnt have to and she didn't expect them to but was more than happy with the outcome.

TBH, kenwood toasters/kettles are not that fantastic, same with Delonghi. I have never had a toaster last longer than 2 years and I don't even like toast !

Just replaced our Delonghi one which would have costed me £50, but did a swap with a friend in the small appliance business, so got it for nowt. 12 months old and stopped working on 2 slots, went to Asda, bought their steel finish 4 slice one for £19, and it works better than any other one we have had.

Get your £25 back and get one elsewhere.

    Ha ha..... that entertained me!

Thanks to everyone who has responded - you are all giving me some real food for thought.

Seems the only toasters that do last are the asda - tesco etc £5 - 10 ones.

My breville one is 10+ years old (£29.99) and still works. Although it isnt used on a daily basis. Personally I like breville as everything i've had from them always lasts longer than I expect - although I may be an exception rather than the rule.

I think sometimes its just luck tbh. But if its a £5 toaster and it lasts a year....you wont really be that upset/feel like you've lost out.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

No toaster is better than any other, IMO.

All they have to do, is warm the bread up to a certain level, where it burns and then at a set level, pop it up and switch the elements off. You don't need all the trickery and gizmos that they seem to be introducing over the years.

What next, an App to let you phone your toaster, to switch itself on, whilst you are on your way home, so it is done when you arrive.

We already have gas fires you can do that with, who needs it?
