Prescription sunglasses from Asda

I've been a member for while now but never had the need to post, can usually find the info I need in the forums or guides.
The problem I have is my partner ordered a pair prescription sunglasses instore at Asda on the Mayday bank holiday. She was told that it would be 3 to 4 days, great as long as she had them for her holidays (didn't give them a date) she wasn't to bothered. Eleven working days later (the 20th) still a reasonable turnaround, she gets a phone call telling her the sunglasses have arrived, but they think they might be wrong, the lenses are clear, they haven't been tinted. They offer to send them back to be sorted. She asks the question will I have them in time for my holiday on the 3rd of June, oh we can't guarantee that. At which point she wants a refund if they can't guarantee it. Would she be entitled to one under the "SAD FARTS" or perhaps use the "time is of the essence" argument?

Shouldn't take long at all TBH, all they have to do is dip them in the tint, to the required shade.
I had similar years ago with Boots and they did it whilst I was there. Cant see Asda sending them miles away to do it. Speak to them again and say you are in a rush for them.0 -
They have given her the answer, she either accepts the answer and gets the refund or take the chance and see if they arrive.
Being ASDA there is a good chance they would refund her anyway but if she agrees to take the chance then she wouldn't be entitled to on as she knows the risk and has accepted the amended contract on those terms.0 -
They haven't offered a refund, they're saying she can't have a refund, hiding behind "my manager says"0

As an alternative, what about enquiring with opticians if they can do it on site/quicker? Then ask asda for the glasses as is along with a small refund to cover the cost of tinting elsewhere.
Not ideal but may be a way to ensure she gets the glasses in time for holiday.
ETA: My own opticians will do it while you wait, cant tell you the normal cost as they've always done it for me for free. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Which store is it? (location)
They should offer you a refund if you are unsatisfied, they are always doing it at my local because people kick up a fuss.
They want to keep people as regular grocery shoppers, the opticians is only a loss leader.0 -
You are entitled to a full refund in law as the glasses ordered and delivered are not fit for purpose, thus faulty. If you want a refund you can have one, full stop.
Having said that, if you can get them to either guarantee a fast turn around (they can phone the people they use with you there!) it may be a better option for you.
It is entirely up to you how you choose to play it.If you want proper advice, please consult a legal professional. I am not one! Thanks.0
