Hi,
I was having issues with Java and tried therefore to uninstall both the 32 and 64 bit versions, clean up, restart and reinstall.

I have got rid of all the java folders etc I could find, but when I try to install java a pop-up says "This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?"
Saying "no" obviously does nothing. Saying yes results in the prompt "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed" and will not proceed.

I have tried Revo Uninstaller Pro to no avail - Java doesn't show up.

Anyone an idea how I can overcome this? Driving me crazy, and yes I do need Java.

Windows 7 (on a Dell Inspiron 1525 if that matters?)

Thanks for looking
Friendly greeting!

I've a vague memory of a similar problem, although not 100% sure I ever solved it.

I'm wondering if trying to reinstall exactly the same version as was previously there (rather than the latest), and then uninstalling that might help?

Have you enabled "show hidden files and folders"?
If not, enabling it may show some remnants that are..well.. hiding!

I'd check C:\Users\User'sName\AppData\Roaming that's where I tend to find leftovers from uninstalled programs and software.

Cheers, it is the same version however, as far as I know...

I found some old msi files in java folders in LocalLow but to no avail. Is there something that will specifically clean java refs out of my registry?
any services? why does it think I have java installed when I don't?
    Grrr

    Maybe these instructions will help?:
    https://java.com/en/download/help/manual_regedit.xml
  • I ran that before, for both installing and uninstalling problems, but no joy... :(

This problem is caused because the Windows Installer information for a previous installation of Java has been removed or damaged, but the related registry keys are still present causing the Java installer to think it is already installed.

This problem is confirmed in all versions of Windows XP, Vista, and 7. This fix is compatible with all versions of Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

Go here and follow the Instructions http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=41

Then re-download JRE from here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

End user running Java on a desktop: JRE: (Java Runtime Environment) covers most end-users needs. Contains everything required to run Java applications on your system.
