Blank Monitor

When I start my pc (Compaq Presario 1609UK) the monitor is blank, at first it would turn on after 4/5 times, over the weekend it took 4 hours to get it to turn on and last night I restarted the PC and it went off and now I have given up. Is it a grahics problem? as I can see very faintly the welcome screen etc for about 1 second then it just goes blank and very white and bright.
Help please.

The graphics card will either display
    1) full image
    2) image with random lines going across it
    3) no image

I could almost guarantee your monitor is screwed. Make sure the contrast and brightness are correct as if they are scrolly buttons maybe theyve been knocked?

If not time for a new monitor :)

the memory modules wouldnt create a screen which is "fairly visible". thats a hardware problem witht he monitor. If the screen wasn't coming on, then the computer maybe failing POST.

Thinking about that is there another monitor you could attach to test it?
